Gerontology center is located in Novi Becej, a pleasant town in the central region of Vojvodina, on the bank of the river Tisa. At the same time it is the center of community which consists of four villages: Bocar, Novo Miloševo, Crna Bara and Kumane.

The trace of settlements in this region are found at the locaity of Matejski brod and Bordoš and originate from Stone Age and the Bronze Age. Nevertheless, the most famous hisorical monument is Araca, very preserved medieval monastery which originates from XIII century.

More than nine centuries ago there was Roman fortification Castellum de Beche which is considered to be starting point for birth of Novi Becej, which is named after this fortification.
The fortification was destroyed in XVIII century, but it still plays very important role in the history of this town.

At first, Novi Becej was under the rule of Serbian despots, then the Turks, so at that time it got name Turkish Becej. In the second half of XVII century it became one of the biggest and the most important towns on the border of Austria- Hungary monarchy.
